As per Jodo. In a nutshell, think of a castle. The Valets stand outside, indecisive, trying to get up the nerve to go in. The Queens are inside their respective castles, i.e., they embody the energies of the suit. The Kings are on the roof looking at the land, looking to see what's coming. The Knights ride out and transform. This is for TdM, but I've used it with other Tarots to good effect.

Thanks! But that's from Jodorowsky. Credit where credit is due. Smiley I like Jodo's perspective a lot. Wink

Reposting from another thread....

http://www.astrocreepsandtarotfreaks.com/pick-a-card-any-card/most-challenging-card/msg1492/#msg1492

First, welcome to the forum! Second, I also dislike the court cards in that they are all too often givin some generic relevance in a reading. A good rule of thumb would be to never consider yourself as one of them unless you use a significator and have chosen it as such. The Page is under the influence of the Ace of his suit. The Knight is under the influence of his corresponding deuce. The Queen is of her three and the King is of his four. Initially, do not try to establish the looks of the individual without doing a seperate reading for that specific purpose.

When you do care to know what this person looks like. Use their card as a significator and reshuffle while asking, "What does this person look like?". Then, starting from the top work your way down. Lay out your first card. This will be the head and face of the person. Below that, place another card for their torso. To the left of the torso place a card for their left arm/hand, and to the right do as much. Below the torso card, do the same for their left  and right legs/feet.

All that's left is to let your eyes wander over the figure you have made until you are drawn to various different aspects of the individual cards. When you find yourself lingering on a certain image, or are repeatedly drawn to it, write down the cards position and the image that has captured your attention. Continue this process until you are fatigued and can no longer carry on.

When you are rested go back to what you have written and study it. You may even have enough information to draw a picture of the person in question. If it makes no sense, just save the paper and make some mental notes. When you do meet them, you will be shocked at your accuracy.

Granted, this is the long method, but keep it up and soon you will be able to pick people out at will. Even better, you may find that you've developed the ability to see these people without doing the writing, or without even touching your cards. Good luck and have fun with it. Also, please come back and let us know how it worked out for you. Until then...

Love and Light,
Bulal

I normally wouldn't repost like this. But this is the third time I've seen this question across the forum and thought I would leave it here where Tarotlady wants it. I would have put it here first but I've gotten into the habit of just checking unread posts and totally missed this one when it was started

This is something that I have thought about for a while now, since these cards are not clear cut as to what they are meanings, I think you have to learn to look at the whole spread, as you would with any reading in the first place, and when you see connections with the cards, see how they fit in. I know that is an absolutely terrible explanation, but to me you have to pretty much call it a bit of common sense, and intuition. I always see the Queen and King as people, I see the Page and Knights as either the energies and actions they represent, which tend to be associated with people, they are normally both for me. I also do not assign genders to the page and knight, but I do the Queen and kings, so this narrows it down a bit. I think it boils down to how you have defined the cards on a subconscious level to make them work for you, everyone has to make up their mind as to what system they are going to use, are you going to apply gender to the court cards, are you going to apply ages and so on.

So, to put this in terms of teaching someone else about how to view the court cards, well, there are a lot of different ways to do this out there and looking on the internet, through books and so forth will give you ideas of how others do it, my way is not the only way, and the only right way is your own way, the way that suites you best and works for you. learn their energies, make "your" decision on what they are, and then you have something that works, which is when you make a definite decision on how you definite what they mean to you, and the system works out as such in readings as you have set the meanings for, then you have a system. You also have to use common sense, some questions and what is going on in the reading will help give clues, if the courts happen to be in the past or in a present position you can simply ask the client, tell them what the card pertains to and figure it out.

Fact is, court cards are a pain in the butt, lol, But I rely on intuition as much as possible, even though I have my little system, I still don't like seeing pages and knights showing up, they more often than not show actions for me, but it all depends on the overall reading, what is going on around them.
